Bio

My name is Rober Astorgano, and my job is to explore, create and tell stories. My way of expression is photography and visual media. My work tells about people and their interactions with the world. I love my job because it is my passion. The best part and the one I love most of photography is not just the one in which I capture the moment and the beauty that catch my attention, but also the enrichment provided by the people and the places in the portraits.

I grew up in Badarán, a little village in La Rioja, a small region in the north of Spain. After finishing my degree in Environmental Science in “Universidad del País Vasco”, my curiosity made me travel around different places, always with my camera in hand, shoothing all the beauty of the world that struke me, so I decided to make my passion in my profession, reason why after living in several countries I decided to settle on Barcelona and begin my photography and filmmaking studies.

I made a Masters in Photography (2011-2012), a Masters in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography (2012-2013) and a Masters in Fashion Photography (2012-2013) in IDEP Barcelona, where I also worked as a photography assistant. After that I specialized in Cinematography in the school CinenAccion (2014). Since then, my professional activity has focused on the field of image and audiovisual creation, around three main axes: photography, documentary narration and teaching.

My work has been exhibited in halls of Logroño, Barcelona, Madrid, London, Brussels and San Francisco.

As a photographer I have worked for international agencies such as Anadolu Agency, and my photographs have been published in both national and international media as «El Periódico de Cataluña», «El Diario», «International Business Times» or «BZ Ullstein GmH».
I have been awarded the first prize in photojournalism in THE YELLOW AWARDS 2018 with my work about the european borders and I have been finalist in THE ALFRED FRIED PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD.

As a filmmaker, I rely on documentary cinema, having directed four films. I directed my first documentary; Rube, in 2013. My last documentary; Las Patronas, filmed in Mexico, has obtained several awards and recognitions.

As a teacher, I work in Pati Llimona Cultural Center in Barcelona and also in different cultural centers of La Rioja, where I teach photography, cinematography and filmmaking courses.
